G-3 PowerPC running I-Movie HD
I installed I-Movie HD on a PowerPC G-3, 600mghz, 768RAM, I-Mac, running Panther 10.3.7, and when working on a movie project, the activity monitor shows the processor maxed out. The video plays choppy and every edit command is delayed. What can I do? Can a higher speed processor be installed on these G-3's? Can I do this myself? Or do I have to downgrade to an earlier version of I-Movie and OS? One forum suggested I go to OS 10.2.8 and I-Movie 4.01. According to I-Life sys req's, I am within the ranges to operate but that's not what I am experiencing.

First get the 10.3.9 update from software update preference panel while connected to the internet get all updates and install them. You will have to downgrade the software try iMovie 4.01 with the present operating system see if that works ok. There is no processor upgrade path for the 600mhz iMac.

Problem solved
Thanks Guru. Based on advice I received earlier today from another Mac expert, I did update the OS to 10.3.9 and then downgraded QuickTime from 7.02 to 6.52. Magically, everything started working okay. The I-Movie projects played normally. These are high school computers so I will see how they work for the students on Monday. Apparently QT 7 is responsible for all kinds of problems, this being one of them. If we still have problems, I will try Plan B, downgrading the I-Movie version. Thanks for the advice on no upgrade available for the processor. That was my plan C.
