Mac Hardware: MBP optical drive a POS...
I've had my macbook pro for about two years now.

About 3 months ago, the intermittent cd reading got bad enough that I shelled out the $90 or whatever to replace the drive.

Now the replacement is going bad, only reading a disc 1/20 times. (The other 19, it'll spin the disc 4-5 times before spitting it out as though I put in a non-disc or upside down disc or whatever)

Current drive is decribed as:
HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N:

Firmware Revision: AP09
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds

I'm sick of this thing having problems... is there a manufacturer of drives that doesn't have the read errors like this?
