Thumbs down Complicated Network printing request
Hi,

I live in a cohousing community where we have one network with users connected either directly to the network 192.168.65.1 or wirelessly through one of our many routers (192.168.x.1) all on subnet 255.255.255.0

I would love to be able to share my printer (connected directly to my USB port) with any of them. I'm on a Mac (currently 10.4.11 but planning on upgrading) but the users are a mixture of Mac and Windows OS versions.

1) Is this even possible?
2) If so, can you give me a hint of how to get started? (Sharing is already turned on.)
3) If not, is there something I could buy to make it possible?

Thanks so much!

Jeanne

As long as you have printer sharing turned on, it should work fine. Specifically, set up the printer sharing on your Mac, then get on another Mac. Go into System Preferences and go to Print and Fax, then add a printer. I don't know exactly how it works on Tiger since I'm on Snow Leopard, but it's pretty straightforward. As long as the other Mac can see it, then the Windows machines will be able to as well (after some setup, but it'll eventually work if you get it right).

Hi,

That didn't work so far. Even on the same subnet the Vista computer wasn't seeing the Mac at all -- all firewalls turned off. I'm going to keep plugging away at that, but I'll welcome ideas.
