connects to internet but other programs not working
Hi there,

I am going crazy here! I can connect to the internet just fine but my p2p program (Transmission) and iChat and even Urban Terror doesn't work any more. I have been struggling to get a port forwarded to Transmission and must have done something that screwed anything up but I can't figure out what it is. I am OSX 10.5.8 and have done all the recent updates. I played around with my configuration settings through T_Com's web page and also some stuff through Mac but thought I changed everything back. Does this has to do with the DNS server? I am so lost and hop someone can help me. Thanks so much in advance. I apologize if I am leaving out some obviously relevant information.

There are two places to check:
1. Proxy settings, if you use a proxy server, then you need to set it in your Network TCPIP settings. Also, check that the gateway/router address is correct.

2. DNS IP address should point to either your router or direct to your ISP's DNS servers.

Hi Peter,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I don't think I use a proxy server. At least as I understand them. I did mess around a little in my network settings and fear I did change something with the DNS server but unsure what you are referring to--or how to change/look at what you are saying.

Configure is set at 'Using DHCP'
Where do I point the DNS IP Address to my ISP DNS's servers? The DNS Server is a little different from my IP Address and I thought they were supposed to match. Is that right?

IP 192.168.2.101
DNS 192.168.2.1

No, the DNS and Gateway should be the same. Your IP address should be different from DNS as the last number in the IP address ie 101 should identify you uniquely on your local network.
