What have you done?
Was there a message saying it was unrecognized when you plugged it in?

What format is the USB key?

Hi, thanks for answering me. When I plug the usb (I have 2) into the mac, the icon comes on the screen and when I open it I can play the music but, I would like to have them transferred to my computer, but it doesn't give any indication that I can transfer them. They are all marked as WMA. (is this the format you were asking me about , if not tell me how I can find this out)

I don't use a Mac, but with my Windows I open the flash drive, also open a window for music (name the file music), reduce sizes so I can see both and I just drag and drop the music files from the stick to the music file.

Hi, I have just tried this, but it won't work, when I was in an apple store recently, one of the guys who worked there couldn't get them to transfer either, I could do that when I had my pc with no problem, but the mac seems to be another kettle of fish. Mary

I understand that getting a Mac after using a PC there can be quite a learning curve.
GOOD LUCK>

Are you saying that if you drag some files from your USB key to the Mac desktop it won't copy?

If yes, is there any dialog message box?
If it's that, sounds like one of the USB keys with proprietary software on it.
Any standard USB key even in HTFS or FAT partition type should copy to OS X without issues.

Hi, yes when I put the usb into my pc, the icon comes up on the screen, and I can play them from the screen, but I cannot transfer them to iTunes, which is what I want to do I have a lot of music on the usb's and would rather they were on iTunes rather than on my desktop, and no matter if I drag them to the iTunes icon, it just doesn't happen. Hi Mary.

iTunes on the Mac does not play wma files. If you have a lot of files you can get an app like EasyWMA to convert them. ($10 though)
Another option is using a different application to play them. Something like Songbird and or VLC and you might also need Flip4Mac. (all free options)

Hi,
Fantastic, thank you for your help. I have printed off all you have said and when I have my next one to one training with the Apple store, I will take this with me and ask him to help with this. I'm sure they should have suggested it or helped me more. But, where would people like me be without people like you. I will close this now. And, thanks once again. Mary
