canoscan connection
Hi ,I have just been given a N67OU cannon scanner which I'm told works well. When I plug it into my imac sox 10.4.11 ,it doesn't recognize it. Nothing happens. The c.d. that came with it would go into the mac yesterday but would a notice saying it didn't support this system kept popping up. Today it wont accept the cd at all. I have tried different usb ports, one will say it wont supply enough power for the device but the rest have no response at all. I've taken it to my neighbors pc which recognized it at once. I am computer illiterate. What am I doing wrong?

goto this link for that scanner and download the driver for the Mac system OS or OS X
http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000475.asp

Often the scanners will come with two CDs one for windows and one for Mac - sounds like you are putting the CD designed for windows into a Mac PC

What Mac system do you have?

I saw the same link etaf provided but I think those are older PPC drivers. (Which can work sometimes on Intel Macs)

Is the scanner recognized using /Applications/Image Capture ?

Thanks for the reply. First, etaf, the cd says for wlndows and for macintosh. so it should be fine. Headrush, my imac runs osx 10.4.11. The scanner box says for windows 2000 professional and macintosh os 8.6-osx (classic mode only). Is my computer in this range? The cd not working is one thing but the fact that the computer doesn't acknowledge any device attached really makes me wonder. I did find the link that etaf suggested but couldn't seem to get that to work either.
appreciate any help, thanks.

No your computer is not in that range but that does not mean it won't work.

Found a page that might help: http://coleshuginn.blogspot.com/2009...rom-canon.html

Looks like a bit of hack to get it going but apparently works. (If you use Photoshop)

Otherwise try this: http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/ and use Image Capture application included in OS X.

I think that needs to be investigated - would you expand on

Thanks again for your help, have had a look at the sites you suggested, I don't have photoshop for the first and in all honesty the second is way out of my league. Have decided to give up on this scanner and find something a little easier to use. Once again thanks for your help.

It's quite simple.

From that page download the following:

http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/libusb-200...usb.pkg.tar.gz
http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/sane-backe...nds.pkg.tar.gz
http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/TWAIN-SANE...ace.pkg.tar.gz

When you double click each one it will decompress the files. (aka unzip if you will)

After that just double click each one and a GUI installer will install what's needed.
(just do them in the order above)

After that just run //Applications/Image Capture and if we're lucky it should work.

Hey Headrush, it wasn't simple for me but I managed ....I think. With the scanner plugged in, when I click on image capture a window pops up saying , No image capture device connected. I'm not far off smashing this scanner so I had better give it away... soon. Thanks for your help, but thats it. Cheers, Mole.

I apologize if that came across wrong and you thought I was suggesting it was simple and the problem was you.

I just meant what actually had to be done was simple and why I pasted those steps.
(Yes that page has lots of info for various OS versions and could be confusing for new users.)
