Help! sapisrv.exe slowing down pc
This process called sapisrv.exe is causing a lot of problems. Many programs like word, excel, IE freeze when I try to open them and only when this process is terminated they open. This process also slows down my pc and so I always close it whenever I see it running.
Sometimes, during shutdown, "sapi server application receiver" has to be forcibly ended using end now and then only the pc shuts down.

OfficeXP, Win XP pro.

Thanks

I think that this process is not required, but how do I permanently disable it?

From one of your previous posts

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\sapisvr.exe

Here it is. Try to uninstall from Control Panel the application that is using it.

Control Panel? maybe this will help.

I don't use XP but in W2K there is Accessibility Wizard which will add functions such as speech. Do you have that?

There is nothing related to speech uninstallation in add/remove programs. Anyway, speech recognition is a part of officeXP, so maybe something can be done from there.

What I want is to prevent sapisrv.exe to start automatically when no speech related applications are running as it takes away a lot of memory. It starts again after sometime even after being terminated. I do not want speech recognition uninstalled.

Himanshu, Since you have discovered this to be part of Office I would suggest you have your thread moved to the Business Applications Forum. I think you'll have better luck with finding a fix there.

Click on the report url to make the request.

The Speech Application Program Interface Server is part of the advanced text services. If you don't use these speech-enabled services, you can turn them off.

Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab > Details button > Advanced tab.

Check the box to turn off Advanced Text Services.

Or, you can do this on a per application basis by right-clicking the shortcuts, choosing Properties, and checking the box at the bottom of the Compatibility tab.

sapisrv.exe starts automatically when every IE window is opened. It rarely starts on its own when I am not connected to the net.

Do you have it associated to the wrong program per chance?

Can you turn it off via, start, run, msconfig, startup?

AcaCandy,
1) What do I do to check whether it is associated to the wrong program?
2) It is not listed in that startup list.

Cybertech,
I will rename it and be back soon with what happens.

Re-naming it did not help as another file named "sapisrv.exe" is automatically created.

A couple of points:
1) Speech recognition works only when sapisrv.exe is running.
2) I searched google for sapisrv.exe and a similar problem is discussed at (http://www.nxsupport.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1285)
