I have Windows 98 and Word 2000, with a Brother HL-1040 printer.

When I switch to Russian keyboard layout by pressing ALT+SHIFT, the Russian characters appear fine when I type them in Word (Times New Roman font). But, when I try to print them, the spacing is all wrong so the words smash together.

In addition the characters do not look as nice as on my screen. I thought TrueType font meant that the printer would print exactly as on my screen, especially if they were Windows Fonts.

I tried installing other fonts from the net, but they all ended up as boxes in my hard copy. And switching to other Windows fonts (Ariel, Gothic, etc.) leaves me with the same spacing problem.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!!!!

Thanks.

Cool Actually, no.

Try changing your printer properties to "Print truetype fonts as graphics"

Can't find
I can't find an option for "Print True Type characters as graphics" When I right click on "Brother 1040 series" printer under "Printers" no tab for "Fonts" comes up. Where else could it be?

What happens if you...
Sorry, I know that this might not be easy for you, but what happens if you load that doc to disk and take it to the nearest Kinko's or something? I mean, basically, how old is your printer? These are things to consider.

Unhappy Still need help
I bought my printer in January of 1999. I don't know if that's considered extremely old. I did take a file to Kinko's and it did print out.

Curiously enough, however, when took it to the University of Texas Computer Lab, which replaces printers on a semi-regular basis, due to the high volume, it did NOT print on the UT printers.

I assume it's just a configurational problem. In any case, I need to figure out how to print Russian fonts clearly on my printer, since I am a Russian major.

If you have any more info or can direct me to someone else, it would greatly be appreciated.

Talking Solved it!
Thanks for the help. I thought about the fact that maybe it was just my printer. So, I installed the HP Laserjet IIP driver from the Windows 98 disk, since I know that works for several printers. Now everything prints just fine.
