When openning word 200o I get the following error message:Word cannot open this document template (C\program files\...\EZPhoto/EZPhoto.dot\).

I click OK or close error message and word works fine. What is going on? Help!!!!

Cool Hi, MP. Welcome to TSG!
Now, with Word closed, find the file on your hard drive called normal.dot and rename it to abnormal.dot. When you launch Word and it does not find normal.dot, it will create a new one. There was a little program that came with Office 97 originally (I think) called EZPhoto. I think most people don't install it or something. Anyway, the normal.dot template is trying to call that EZ Photo template. By renaming normal.dot, we get another one that doesn't ask for the EZ Photo.

Hope I've made some sense and that you'll let us know whether that worked or not. It should!

Cool Two are not necessarily better than one!
Rename them both--or just delete them both.

Dreamboat - I deleted both normal.dot files - still have the same EZphoto business happening. This is very frustrating, particularly since word 2000 is working - I have that annoying intermediate step. suggestions??

Thanks again.

Cool You bet!
We aim to please! (Hee hee!)

With Word closed. Start-Find-Files or folders and look for STARTUP. This will be a folder and it will lie somewhere as a subdirectory below the folder called OFFICE. On mine, with Word 2000, it's in:

C:\WINDOWS\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\WORD

Anyway, make sure there's nothing in that folder; particularly, any template (*.dot) files. Just delete them or move them.

Cool Fine! It wants to play dirty? Fine!
Then we will too.

I don't usually have to look this one up, but here's the MS Technet Article that explains how to fix it. If you have any problems at all following the instructions, you let me know.
