I when attempt to import an Excel97 document into Access97, in the drop box, "Type of Files", it only list dbase 5, III, IV, etc. Excel,Word, Exchange is missing from the list. Reloading Office 97 does not fix this problem.

Cool Hi LHoward and welcome to TSG!
When reinstalling, did you choose all of the filters/converters? I don't think it's under the programs themselves; I think it's under tools or something. I always install RUN ALL FROM HARD DRIVE, or whatever that option is.

Can you check that out before we go further?

Good luck!

I found the fix for my problem!!!

Problem:

In Microsoft Access 97, you point to Get External Data on the File menu and then
Import, but one or more of the following applications do not appear in the Files
Of Type list box:

dBASE III, dBASE IV, dBASE V, Text Files and Microsoft Excel.

Resolution:

1) Open Windows Explorer and Search for :
MSEXCL35.DLL Microsoft Excel
MSTEXT35.DLL Text
MSXBSE35.DLL dBASE

2) Rename each file(if listed) and close Windows Explorer.

3) Run Setup from Office97 CD
4) When the first screen of the Setup program appears, click Add/Remove.

5) In the Options box, select Data Access, and then click Change Option.

6) In the Data Access Options box, click Database Drivers, and then click Change
Option.

7) Click the check box for each ISAM driver that does not appear in the
Files Of Type list box in Microsoft Access, click OK twice, and then click
Continue.

Return to Microsoft Access and on the File menu, point to Get External Data,
and then click Import. The additional ISAM drivers should now appear in the
list.
