Having installed MS Office 2000 with no printer installed all new spreadsheets are on Letter sized paper, I need A4 size as the default (UK based). Have installed A4 printer and changed paper default in Word, Outlook and Powerpoint. How can I change the Excel default? Many thanks.

I am not exactly sure if Excel allows you to set a default paper size for the entire program, and I believe you can only customize paper size settings for a single workbook. Here is a quick work around: On a new blank spreadsheet set the paper size to A4 through the page set up properties, and then save it as a template file. You can always use this template when starting new spreadsheets, and it will save you the time of continuously having to re-set the paper size.

Cool Very close, Melissa!
Save that file as book1.xls in your XLSTART directory. Close Excel, reopen, make sure it's A4.
