OK, I give up. I've tried everything that was suggested on this thread and I still can't run Outlook w/o the safe mode. My only choice is to save my Contacts and Stored Emails. My question is : I've found a .pst file, is this my stored emails? and I can't find a .pab file so where is my contacts?

Angry HELP
Now I'm really in trouble!
I used Eraser2000 to clean out the old Premium version and then reinstalled a Standard version. Now none of the Office apps run. I even get an error message when I boot up about installing Office. When I right-click on the shorcuts they have no targets. And when I try to run from the .exe I get an error message than I first have to install the program!
When I double-click a Word file I get an error message that one of the components or path or libraries is missing.

HELP!!!

Are you able to go back into control panel and click on add/remove programs - select Office 2000 - remove and then click on repair?
Any errors?
Dreamboat prolly has many more ideas

>She

If you do the repair from add/remove be sure to tick the little box that says "restore shortcuts"

OK, I finally got all the other Office apps working - except for the OUTLOOK!!!! It still only runs in the safe mode. Could it be because when I started it after the reinstall, it found a previous version (I don't know from where) and asked if I wanted to import the previous settings. Like an idiot I clicked on "OK". At least I succeeded in running the Detect and Repair. And I made a new icon. But still I have to run the safe mode. Back to square one.

Can you believe I'm a programmer in real life?!?!?!

Hi RPhox

Sorry to keep you hanging.
It's 3:19 pm here, it must be 11:19pm there, right?

Will Outlook start if you create a new profile that uses a new PST file?

While in /safe try this:
Tools | options | other | advanced options - check addin manager / comm and uncheck all - start outlook and then add one back at a time - to test if this might be the problem?

It's 2:15am your time, 9:15am my time so I just go into the office.

Thanks for the new suggestions. I thought you had given up on me.

Last night I "erased" everything again and reinstalled again, renamed the Outlook register, and on the first startup of Outlook told the pc not to import any defs from anyplace.

All to no avail.
I'll try out the new ideas tonight at home. Thanks to all.

Do you know what mode Outlook 2000 is running?

Corporate/Workgroup(CW) or Internet Mail Only(IMO)

Click on Help>About Microsoft Outlook, it should be the second line.

With Outlook closed
Start>Settings>Control Panel>Mail or Mail/Fax icon>Show Profiles>Add>
Place a checkmark in Internet E-Mail>Next>
Give your Profile a name>Next
click on the Setup Mail Account button
fill out the General and Servers tab with your Internet account information, you are using a Pop3 account correct?
Next>Next>Next> Add Inbox to StartUp group or not to add Inbox to StartUp group, up to you
Next>Finish

Back to the Mail window, where it says, "When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile:"
hit the dropdown arrow and highlight/select the new profile you just created. Click Close.

Use the Start>Programs>Microsoft Outlook, to open Outlook.

Does it open? If not, what if any error messages did you receive?

I have a few ideas for you if this does not work, but if it does, the next step will be to see if we can't get your original .pst file opened in your new profile.

Let me know.

Ok, so it took longer than 30 minutes to get back here

I tried shekarra's suggestion. Nothing was checked to begin with.

EAFiedler:

I'm running Windows 98, Outlook 2000 (IMO). I tried creating a new profile. When I clicked the MAIL icon it was to create a new Internet Connection. No Show Profiles or Create Profiles. I did it anyway : incoming, outgoing, which dial-up to use. I completed all 4 Tabs-General, Servers, Connection and Advanced. But at no time did it ask which profile to use for Outlook.

Any ideas?

One more thing.

When I finished, I set the new account as the default and tried to start Outlook. No error messages. It just never gets passed the Title Box.

Thanks.
