I have just completed a reinstallation of Office 2000 after a problem with a corrupted WinME operating system. I erased my registry, win.ini and system.ini before the reinstall. All Office updates have been installed.

Every time I open Word or Access, the Windows Installer opens and goes through a configuration process. Then the applications open correctly.

When I tried to open some templates from the MS Template Gallery site, I received a message that Word or Access was not installed and the template could not open.

Any suggestions on how to complete my Office installation so that the Windows Installer does not open every time I open the application, and so that I can open templates from the Template Gallery? I have tried a remove and reinstall, and a repair with no success. Thanks very much.

I had the same problem for awhile. Try uninstalling office, then reinstall. When you reinstall, do a custom install, and select (if you have the diskspace) everything related to Word and Access. Btw, did you reinstall Windows after you deleted the ini files? That might help as well.

Also get SR-1 and SP-2 for Office 2000 and install those. Not only did the Installer that came with 2k have problems, but these service packs will save you all sorts of time for other little beasties. Get them here:

SOLVED
I reinstalled the installer, and I did not get the error message again. Thanks VERY much to all of you who offered help on this.

Sincerely,

Richard
