In the past when reformating I have been able to simply copy my outlook pst file and replace the default pst file with the one holding my data...this time outlook is telling me I need special permission to do this or that the pst file needs to be configured before allowing the operation...I don't know about permissions or how to configure a file I can't open...any ideas on how to get outlook to read this file would be most appreciated. BTW the pst file worked fine prior to the reformat.

Right Click, Properties.

Make sure it isn't a read only file.

If you burned the file to a CD Rom that happens. (Turns into a read only file)

You should also be closed out of Outlook (and do ctrl-alt-del to make sure that Outlook is not in the task list.)

CW= Corporate Workgroup
IMO= Internet Mail Only

accessing pst files
Fixed it...thnks to you guys...simple solution really it just didnt sink in...files saved to a cd are saved in a read only mode...by going to properties you can unclick the read only box and voila...everything can be accessed as normal.

Thnks a million for all your help...I would have battled forever figuring this one out.

I think there is a way to preserve file attributes but I am not sure. But I figured that was it because I just ran into that problem a week ago.
