A few days ago I tried to manually enter the primary number in a form in Access. Now when I try to make a new entry, the primary key field no longer gives me the number automatically. How do I fix this problem I'm sure I created?

Hi Ityson, welcome to TSG. Have you tried compacting and repairing the database (from db window Tools > database utilities > Compact and repair database)? I didn't find anything on the MS website, and I've not seen this particular problem before, but one of the (many) things compacting does is to reset auto-numbering.

Also, to keep this from happening again, you might set the Enabled property of that AutoNumber field's control on the form to "No", so that no typing is possible.

Hope this helps.

Stumbling around, I actually found the compacting function. However, I hadn't thought about disallowing any typing in that field. I should have! I deleted the manual entries I made a few days before and, after compacting and re-booting, everything seemed to be functioning correctly. I've never used this website before. I'll be suggesting it to others. Thanks ever-so for the support!
