Solved: Office Clipart Organizer error 0x800700c1
I have a Windows XP computer with Office 2003 Pro installed. When you try to insert clipart, or try to run the Microsoft Clipart Organizer, you get the attached error. 0x800700c1, %1 is not a valid win32 application. We've got all of the service packs and updates, uninstalled Office completely, removed the old Office directories and registry entries, and reinstalled... still have the same error. Any ideas? Thanks!

Well hi TechGuy!

Have you used this installation of Office before? More importantly, have you used the ClipArt of this installation before?

I wonder if you have done a complete install. In Office 2003, if my memory serves me right, a standard install will NOT put the clip art on the computer. Also, you'll need the second disc, which is what contains the media material for Office 2003 Pro. Although instead of an error you should have gotten the request to install. You may have a damaged file. Can you run all Office applications? Can you use clip art in any of them?

Also, have you tried a Detect and Repair through the afflicted applications? You might also think about re-registering Excel, although with what you've stated with the new install I wouldn't suspect it, but if you wanted to..

Let's start with that and see where we can get.

Office 2003 Pro has only one CD (you may be thinking of XP). Tried both the Standard and Complete install with the same result. Also tried Detect & Repair. Good thought, but didn't get me anywhere. Also, for fun, I tried just uninstalling and reinstalling Clipart Organizer (under Shared Components). Same error.

This is an Open License CD that's been used on at least 30 other machines that all work fine. This one did, too, until some update or other change killed it mysteriously.

Thanks for the reply!

We're not having any licensing issues, but tried registering those DLLs anyway. Still no luck.

Hi TechGuy, I believe this could be your problem(An older version of the Microsoft Data Access Components is installed on your computer), the error code isn't the same though:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302375

Or this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;884424

Anyway, all these articles seem to suggest a problem with Microsoft Data Access Components. Could this be the case?

A follow-up question: do you have PCAnywhere installed? A quote from here.

Quote:
This may also occur if you upgrade to MDAC 2.7 and the program PCAnywhere 10.5 is installed on your computer. The "remote management" feature of PCAnywhere writes a registry key value that changes the authentication level used by the OLE DB proxy.

Might not be related, but, ensure no add-ins are installed and stop running any anti-virus software. And Google Desktop if you have it (been known to cause some conflicts). If you turn off all items at windows startup (msconfig), do you still have the problems? Guess we're kind of shooting in the dark here. At least the problem sounds local to that machine, if you've had 30+ installs of this licence software.

Just an FYI, we finally fixed the issue by reinstalling Service Pack 2. Pretty weird, but it worked!

So, what you are saying, in essence, is that my fix would have worked as well

I'm having this same issue. How do you reinstall Service Pack 2? Whenever I try, it says it's already on my computer.

I've tried this fix along with many others, but I can't access Clipart. It appears to me to be a problem with connecting to clipart online. However, I can get to Office online, choose the clipart I want, but I can't download it. I've checked "firewalls" on both Windows and Virus software and that is not the problem. HELP!
