How do I create a keyboard shortcut that will open Word or Excel or any Application? ie: alt +ctrl + W . I used to have one but it was lost when re-installing after a trial upgrade . Thanks, joesg@msn.com

Go to the icon for the particualr program you are tryin to create the Keyboard shortcut for, Right click, choose properties. Click on the shortcut tab, put your cursor in the "Shortcut Key" window, then type the combination you would like to use, ie : ctrl+alt+w It should add the shortcut combo to the line, then you check ok, and close it out.

Thank you but, the area in Properties is greyed out and unresponsive. Sorry, I should have stated that in my question. So revising the inquiry, how do I activate that part of the properties window? Thanks again, Joesg@msn.com

What is the MS-DOS name of the file when you right-click and hit properties?

What version of Windows?

I am looking for the MS-DOS name, not the program name. The MS-DOS name should look something like:

excel.exe or excel.lnk

and

winword.exe or winword.lnk

There is no DOS name listed. All each Property Window says is Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word. I hope that's a help, maybe that's the problem?
I'm using Windows 98.

Okay, try this if you like:

Hit Start-Find/Search-Files or folders.

Type in:

winword.exe,excel.exe

Look in C and include subfolders. Find/Search now.

When they come up, right click the first one and hit Create Shortcut. It will yell at you and say it can't create on here, do you want to put it on the desktop instead. Push the button that says You bet!

Do the same to the second file.

Try doing the shortcut keys on THOSE shortcuts. If it works, delete the other shortcuts that don't have what you need.

you must have the ill mannered version of Windows DB
- mine is very well behaved, doesn't shout, cuss, or smoke
- and is too well mannered to say 'You bet!', usually it's 'are you certain of your selection master?'
