Red face Solved: Elephant in my Outlook 2003 outbox won't go away
Basis data: Vista Home Premium OS, Dual Core processors (2.67 GHz), 4 GB Ram, purchased AVG antivirus behind Wireless (WP2) router with Qwest DSL. I use Outlook (from Office 2003) with Yahoo as my POP3/SMTP service.

A week ago I created an email that was too big (62MB). Rather than canceling, I accidentally hit send (honest...). I've been trying to delete it ever since. I extended timeout times, just in case. After very long process time (5 min+) I get this error message:

"Task 'xxxxx - Sending' reported error (0x800ccc0f): 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator, or Internet Service provider (ISP). The server responded: 451 timeout (#4,4,4)'"

But then, if I try to delete from the opened outbox, I get an Outlook error stating:

"Can't open this item. Outlook has already begun transmitting this message."

It's stuck there.

OK, so another thing I have to admit... I previously had a problem with automatic read-receipts hanging up in my send process, so I used mdbvu32.exe to delete them. So, I thought... maybe I can use that to delete this bad-boy from my Outbox... Bad thinking.

What have I failed to tell you that can help you tell me how get rid of this elephant?

Hi tdrapp

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Didn't take me too long to find you, did it?

Place Outlook 2003 in Work Offline mode:
File > Work Offline
Then close Outlook, allow the process to terminate ( a few seconds) then restart Outlook.

Can you delete the message in the Outbox now?

You are welcome.

Don't forget to place Outlook back online, so you can collect your messages.
