Have tried Dell software help, Netscape help and can't get an answer--

When saving files on floppy disk from the net in HTML, my ISP longon box is somehow saved, too. When I call up the file to work in MSW or Excel 2000, the longon pops up, insisting that I sign on and will not go off when I click on the X. Repeated clicks on the X sometimes work (but not always). If I can get rid of the pesky box, the file is there....

I found, in MS Explorer, a MS Dos file
RUNQUE~1.HTM , an archive file, which brought up the persistent pesk when opened.

Extermination suggestions?

(Dell suggested saving "text only", but the Excel files were blank, and the text files contain stray words down the sides which are difficult to get rid of.)

It sounds like what is happening is that when you save the HTML file you are getting a link to the net as well. When you open it again, the file wants to go to the net to get the link - so it pops up your login. You can turn autologin off... To test this theory, save a file, disconnect from the net, and open it (at home I mean) and see if it is happening.

I don't know enough about HTML to tell you how to edit the file to get rid of the links or whatever it is, but if you don't know how to turn off AutoLogin, I can help.

That is exactly what happens.

And no, I don't know how to turn off Auto Logon. Step by step, please. And is it necessary to turn it back on?

Thanks,

Turning off AutoLogon would simply mean unchecking the box on the logon window that says 'Connect automatically'. When it starts to connect, click Cancel to get rid of the grayed out screen.

If you can, post the URL of the page you are trying to save. Otherwise, perhaps you can email me the file or page? I can edit the HTML for you so it doesn't search for an image or sound source to complete the page, but, of course, the page will be incomplete. You could right-click on the image (if it's looking for an image) and save the image file locally (on your own hard drive) so it doesn't go out on the internet looking for the file.

Turning it back on is a preference, not a necessity. When you double click IE it auto connects you to the net - this will go away if you turn Auto off. You will have to connect manually (My Computer, Dial Up Networking, Double click your ISP) then load IE if you do not turn it back on. You can create a shortcut on your desktop of the ISP icon (called a connectoid) to make it easier to get to.

Glad to hear it. And thanks for letting us know.

I'll go ahead and shut this one down now.
