I'm having trouble replacing the scan.dat file in Windows NT 4.0 When I try to copy scan.dat to \program files\network associates\virusscan nt it tells theres a sharing violation and that the file is in use. I have disabled the virus scan from the systray. What task do I need to stop.

I am moving this to the NT forum where you will be more likely to get the help you need.

Please go there to look for replies.

Since I didn't get a response to the question, I figured out another way to copy the scan.dat file. My system is a dual boot 98/NT system so I just shutdown NT and booted up 98 and copied the file to the directory on my d: drive. Had to do the same thing in reverse to update the 98 side. I know this is just side stepping what I was trying to do. What is correct way of doing this?

Greetings

No, that is not the "best" way to do it, but it is "one" of the ways.

The best way, is to actually use the McAfee updater that comes with Virus Scan. It will connect you to the FTP site, download the latest virus definition file and install it.

If you prefer to do this manually, then what you need to do is go into your Services Applet in your control panle, and stop all the McAfee services, then update the files, then re-start the services.

Hope this helps
