Hi, I have a Zip drive, originally installed as a removable drive. I installed N&B98, which I did'nt like and since removed, but during the N&B installation it changed the Zip to floppy B. The drive still works normally, but I want to get rid of that floppy B drive and change it back to a removable drive. In the registry I can find it at H Key local machine/enum/SCSI and change the current drive letter assignment, but on a reboot it still comes back as floppy B. Anyone know of somewhere else I can find and change the drive back to the way it was originally? TIA

Best way to change a zip drive back would be to get the latest software from Iomega and install it. During install it asks what letter you want to make the drive.

You can also go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager, double click the Zip drive and then change the letter to whatever you want (before or after the update)

Thanks Larry, As to device manager, I've tried in regular windows and safe mode, but my options for letter change are greyed out. I even tried removing the whole key in the registry and the darn thing just comes back as a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive B on a reboot! Kinda driving me nuts because this should be such a simple thing to do.

Yeah, it should be. Sound like the ZIP drivers are messed up. I would highly recommend getting the latest ones and installing them.

Hi Larry, Finally was able to get a download of the latest drivers for Zip 100 from Iomega. That renamed my 3 1/2" floppy drive B to Zip 100 drive B, I guess I can live with that. I still don't know why my drive assignments boxs in device manager are still "greyed out". But, this all leads me to another question which I'll repost as another topic. Thanks much!

Solved the mystery. Clearing a check box called "auto insert notification" moved my Zip from drive B to Removable drive F which is where it was originally.

Ahh! Thanks for letting us know. I'll go ahead and close this one down then. And I think I'll add it to the archives - I doubt I'll remember the solution since it is a bit odd, and we may see it again some day.

And thats what the archives are for, right?
