Hi.

I'm trying to install an IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring PC Card PCMCIA network card into a new DELL Inspiron laptop.

Details:
DELL Inspiron 7500, PIII 500Mhz, 128Mb RAM.
Win 95 - 4.00.950 B

I can get the T/R card to work fine until the PC is rebooted. When it comes back up, the PCMCIA status in control panel knows there is a card, but not what it is.

I can get it to work again by stopping the card, removing it from the PC (physically NOT in devices!) and then plugging it back in. The PC will recognise it as the IBM T/R card and give me a network logon.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from IBM (version 12.20) but no luck so far.

I have switched to standard VGA display driver and disabled all com ports/LPT ports/IR ports etc in the BIOS.

Any ideas greatly received as this is driving me bonkers!!!!

PS - forgot to mention that the T/R card works fine in the old Toshiba laptop the DELL is to replace!!!

Hello again.

After some more work, I have also found that restarting in "Safe mode with Network support" then restarting again in normal mode will re-enable the T/R card, but again only till the next reboot/switch off.

FYI.

I have managed to get this sorted (with help from the IBM web site forum!!!)

Going into Control Panel/PC Card(PCMCIA) settings and in the Global Settings uncheck "Automatic Selection" in the shared memory, but don't actaually change the numbers.

I can now reboot the laptop at will and still logon to the network.
