Hopefully, you haven't done anything drastic yet... But here's how I solved a similar problem with my AGFA SnapScan 1212U...
Matter of fact, here's the actual fax communication I had with them about my problem...
Boot the computer into safe mode and remove the scanner from the device manager. Look for it in AGFA SCANNERS, IMAGING DEVICES< and OTHER DEVICES. Remove ALL listings of the scanner, then boot the computer into the setup utility and look for LEGACY USB PORT in peripheral configuration or Integrated peripherals. Make sure it is enabled, and save and exit. The scanner should be found and should load using the AGFA SCANNER CD. If you need further assistance, please call us at 1-970-522-1380.

Agfa Technical Support
I had different menu options... This was my reply...
Here are the Windows '98 upgrade installation instructions that the online technical support representative sent me. Now, the only thing I had to work out for myself was the "Legacy USB Port" option that he spoke of... My BIOS (Award) didn't have this exact option. The option I had to enable was USB Keyboard Support. I know, it sounds strange, and I enabled it on a hunch, but that's what made my scanner work!
Hope this helps... It's a great scanner once you get it to work!!
