it looks like Windows is looking to continue installing Files for the 'Last' Driver/Program you installed...this is why it is looking for a Temp (.tmp) file at start-up, When you install drivers (or Programs) most of them require a reboot then they finish of installing the files (this is what is happening)
but unfortunatley it can't find the file as its been removed....
I had the exact same problem as you a while back and I fixed it by installing all my drivers and the audio (Realtek 97) last....
after Re-Installing your Drivers run the Device Manager (right-click on My Computer and select 'MANAGE' then choose Device Manger in the left window and check that all drivers are installed and running ok (if there are any problems there will be a yellow "!" or red "x" next to the name of the hardware thats not working) if there is problems then it is because the drivers aren't installed for that item or the drivers used are incorrect...
if they are OK try running Windows Audio Service...
(START / RUN / type "services.msc" (without " ) and press enter/return then in the services window look for WINDOWS AUDIO and double-click on it...choose "Start-Up Type" as Automatic (then click APPLY) then click the START button (it will be greyed out if the service is already running) then click OK and close Services
then goto START / CONTROL PANEL / SOUNDS and AUDIO DEVICES
click on the SOUNDS Tab and choose "Windows" and click apply and OK
re-boot the PC and see if you have sound

OK,

Take a look in Device Manager

To get to Device Manager click Start>>Run type devmgmt.msc click OK

At the top click on View and select show hidden devices

Look down the list to see if any yellow warning signs or ? marks are beside anything especially sound devices.

Since when is a sound card modem 0?

Since the member has installed the drivers from the driver disk and I hope all of them were installed even if they look like they werenot they all have to be installed.

I suggest going in thru safe mode to device manager and remove all of the entries for the sound card device and exit out and restart the computer and if there is a sound card disk to install the drivers make sure it is in the drive before reboot just incase the system needs it. Also remove the modem stuff under device manager also.

No luck. I did like that, then it automaticly installed modem 2 as my sound device, not my realtek soundcard. And still i can't choose that card as my sound device. And it still says cant find 4e.tmp when i start up computer.

OK, i think i found a lead to this problem. Windows has installed unimodem half-duplex audio device as primary sound. Can that be the problem?

if nothing above works, try searching the net in general for your problem - there are lots of forums out there you know.

You could do both. I'm not trying to send people away, just trying to fix a problem
