This isn't really a major problem, but more of an annoyance. I have Red Hat Linux 6.1 installed on my Micron. I have an external Zoom 56k Voice Modem. The issue is that im using the RH Dialer that came with Gnome/KDE or whoever, and it will go to dial, handshake, and nearly make a connection.. then disconnect. It will make a second attempt and connect fine. Any suggestions? Im kind of a newbie with Linux, so be nice

This is a "known feature" of RH6.1! Go to http://www.redhat.com/support/errata...999051-01.html
and download the updated PPP rpm package, install and all will be well with your dial-up connection.

See. I knew if I waited long enough another modem-connecting-Redhat-Using Linux user would come along I've never configured a modem w/ Linux, so I wasn't gonna be much help here!

Now, if you were talking about a cable modem...

awesome! the exact information i needed.. thank you very much
mikev, rh 6.1 actually has something pretty easy to setup a connection now... something i thought was pretty similar, and as easy as microsofts internet connection wizard... kinda nice for a guy trying to make the switch from MS to Linux

Y'know, I keep hearing that Corel's Linux is a breeze to set up.

One installation I heard about took 7 minutes, one reboot, and up and running. Automatically found and configured Video, Sound, Modem, NIC, whatever. Kinda cool.

Only bad thing I've heard is a lack of apps included, but they're pretty easy to install by hand. Hafta give Corel a look, I guess.
