i've got more trouble... i just reformatted my hard drive... i installed a fresh new copy of rh linux 6.1 on and now im having some trouble with DNS... I can ping specific IP's but when it comes down to domain names, im getting stuck with unknown hosts... this is after pinging yahoo, infoseek, my current ISP and previous ISP. I have my DNS servers correctly specified.. im just stuck and dont know what else to check.. any suggestions? (i figure i might as well ask away since the linux part of the bb is kinda slow )

Does RedHat automatically configure your network settings for you, or does it let you change stuff manually???

If it does, check your /etc/resolv.conf file (I think that's the one. not on Linux right now.) and make sure you have a line like this:

nameserver 123.456.789.111

of course, correct the IP address.

Another suggestion would be to check it by running Linuxconf, a configuration program that's included w/ RH.

now, is there anything you can suggest that would let me actually use my computer? for example i have this girlfriend that tells me I spend too much time on it... and gets crabby when i use it... is there some type of script or virus i can execute on her?

i have a job where im on windows 98 all day, but my linux box is at home! *whine*

That's easy.

Quit your job (or convince your boss to let you run Linux), and lock yourself in your computer room with music turned up LOUD.

Another idea (a little late) is to tell her you're working on her Christmas presents, and she can't bother you or come in the computer room. Worked for me
