HTTP Error 401
when i go to the following website : http://www.partners.icbc.com/salvage/index.html

and click the banner "registered users log in" INSTEAD OF A WINDOW APPEARING ASKING ME FOR USER NAME AND PASSWORD i get the following message in the next page:

"Server: Microsoft-IIS/4.0 Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 18:00:04 GMT Connection: close WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="dbd.icbc.com" Connection: close OHTTP/1.1 401 Access Denied WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="dbd.icbc.com" Connection: close Content-Length: 638 Content-Type: text/html
HTTP Error 401
401.2 Unauthorized: Logon Failed due to server configuration

You are not authorized to access this system.

Please contact the ICBC Helpline to verify that you have permission to access the requested resource."

BUT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WHEN I USE NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR AND ALSO USING INTERNET EXPLORER I CAN ACCESS IT FROM ANY OTHER COMPUTER BUT NOT FROM MY OWN.

Hmmm I get the same thing with NS and MSIE. Something is amiss with the site I guess.

HTTP error 401
This probably silly to answer since you probably already know that, that error is a log in or valid password error. User's of our pharmacy software get this error when they have entered their password incorrectly say with caps instead of lower case. It could be a problem with the site too, but generally here, I have seen it as user error.

**Generally this error message means you need to log on (enter a valid user ID and password) somewhere first. If you have just entered these and then immediately see a 401 error, it means that one or both of your user ID and password were invalid for whatever reason (entered incorrectly, user ID suspended etc.).**

seems as if nobody understood what i meant

the problem is not with username or password the problem is that the applet window that appears and prompts me to enter my username and password, that window doesn't appear at all.

Instead it goes to the next page and says HTTP error.......
but it works fine when i use netscape navigator

Per chance did you choose to save your password on the IE browser? Perhaps try opening IE and clear history, cookies, temp files.

the problem is solved

You know what it was

internet options> security > custom level > user authentication > anonymous logon

instead of anonymous logon i chose another option which is "prompt for user name and password"

and now its perfect
