When I click on an e-mail button or underlined contact on a web page my outlook express 5 opens to let me compose a message but the address is not there. It used to do that but I stopped using OE5 and started using Outlook 2000. That's when this problem first started. since I couldn't figure out how to get news groups in OUTLOOK 2000 either I switched back to OE5 and lo, the problem exists there now. Should have let well enough alone. More is not always better. This is getting real inconvenient when I try to send mail from a web site especially if the address isn't written out, just the contact or the button. I'm running Win 98.

Please help! You have been so gracious and helpful in the past. I'm depending on you @

How long has it been since you installed Outlook2000? You could restore back to a prior registry if it's been withing the last 4 days. Have you tried uninstalling it?

To restore back to a prior registry keep pressing F8 during bootup til you get the bootmenu. Take the option for a "Command Prompt Only". At a command prompt type in the following and press enter.

scanreg /restore

You will be presented with the prior 4 days registries to restore from. Pick one dated prior to the Outlook2000 install. Now restart the PC and let it boot into W98.

I would try deleting OE5 and then reinstalling it.

Thnx bhesson and Mulder. Guess I will have to go for the uninstall/reinstall option. I installed Outlook 2000 about 2months ago and uninstalled Outlook express5 about the same time, then reinstalled it (OE5) two days ago with the same results. Both mailers are on my system. I'm using OE5 as the default. I'll uninstall it tomorrow and see what happens.
thnx again!

See this page URL:MailToProtocol and see if it fits your problem.

BTW, Outlook does not support newsgroup reading. Outlook 2000 uses a news only version of Outlook Express to handle news reading, which you launch from View>Go To>News.

If that does not work, try setting up your Newsgroup accounts in Outlook Express first.

You might find the following articles useful:

If you are interested in putting a shortcut on your desktop to access the newsreader.

Create a shortcut on your desktop and put this in as the Target entry:

"X:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /outnews

Where X is the drive letter where your program resides. Include the quotes and change the path if not correct.
