I am attempting to import e-mail addresses from an excel spreadsheet to Outlook Express. I have saved the file as CSV format. When I import in OE, all goes well until I'm asked to Map the Field. The wizard will not let me get past this point even after I have chosen the appropriate field name. I have labeled the column of my spreadsheet E-mail Address. But this clearly isn't the answer...

How do I map the field, is this done on the excel spreadsheet or in OE?

To my knowledge it is only done during the import. However! (There's always a "however" with software...) Open OE, determine all your field names, in order. Open Excel and make the field names the exact same names and in the exact same order as the OE fields. I believe this will pre-map your fields.

Hi Drewha

I usually Export my Address Book from Outlook Express to a .csv file on the desktop, this gives me the template the .wab file uses in Outlook Express. Add/Delete your names and resave the file over itself. When you Import using this file, you can skip the mapping fields.

There are the 29 field names for Outlook Express ver 5 and higher.
First Name,Last Name,Middle Name,Name,Nickname,E-mail Address,Home Street,Home City,Home Postal Code,Home State,Home Country,Home Phone,Home Fax,Mobile Phone,Personal Web Page,Business Street,Business City,Business Postal Code,Business State,Business Country,Business Web Page,Business Phone,Business Fax,Pager,Company,Job Title,Department,Office Location,Notes

Thank you EAFiedler and Dreamboat! The answer appear to be a mixture of both of your replies. I exported a phone list which mapped the fields into their correct order, voila!

Have a great day! Drewha
