Does anyone know if you can set up ie5 to show the favorites list as multiple columns (like in Netscape) rather than having to use the scroll feature. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't belive so, but, when I ended up with so many Favorites, I created folders for about a dozen categories, and Moved all my Favs into appropriate categories using Organize Favorites. Now when I go looking for a Fav, I go to the category folder and a separate new slide-out menu appears.

I've tried dozens of registry entries to do this, and haven't found anything that works. Getting the Program listings in Win98 to do this is a snap, however.

Hi Jim... thanks for the reply. Yes, I expected this wasn't possible (or discovered yet). Anyhoo... can you tell me how to do the columns in win98 program listing (I read about this in Livingston's InfoWorld column... but didnt keep a copy) Thanks.

fajohn, I'm not sure if W-95 does this the same as W-98 but....

To get the Favorites to display in columns by using programs, click Programs, Windows Explorer, Windows, Favorites. The right hand window should be the favorites. There are several ways to display the files and they can be found at the right side of the tool bar that has the Cut, Copy, Paste in it.

I hope this works on W-98 for you. Also, on W-95-IE4.01 there are 2 different places to get to Favorites. One is in the large tool bar that contains Back, Forward and Home. The other is in the File, Edit, View tool bar. I find that the second one is more comfortable to use that the first place. Good luck, Steve-x8086

Hi Steve-x8086... I didn't make my question clear enough... so here goes: when viewing "favorites" from within ie4 or ie5 you get a long list that scrolls off the bottom or top of screen (if you have lots of favorites... i do). I would like not to have to scroll but rather show favorites as multiple columns (like in Netscapes browser). Yes, in "Windows" Explorer you can view the files in different ways... that's not what I need... thanks anyhoo. PS/ If a modification can be made to have ie4 or ie5 function this way... I'm sure it will have to be in the registry... but some other folks have tried to find it and not had success... still looking for an answer... but expect it just may not be possible. fajohn

(Win98) HOW TO SWITCH BACK TO MULTIPLE COLUMN LISTS FOR THE START PROGRAM MENU:

Click Start, then Run. Type Regedit, then click OK. In the Registry Editor, click the plus signs to expand the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer

Within the explorer folder, click the Advanced folder once to select it. Right-click an unoccupied area in the right hand pane. Click New, then String Value. In the name box that appears, type StartMenuScrollPrograms (all one word), then press Enter. Right-click the name you just created, then click Modify. In the Value Data box, type false, then click OK.

Close the Registry Editor.

It should not be necessary to restart Windows. When you click Start and then Programs, your menu should show multiple columns instead of a single column with scroll arrows (assuming you have a long Programs list).

Now, someone PLEASE figure out how to do this for the Favorites!!!

Jim... thanks for the info on changing "programs" to column format. I had decided to look for Livingston's column in Infoworld where I had seen the same info and did find it at http://www.infoworld.com/cgi-bin/dis...t/990531bl.htm Since my question seemed a good one (for us anyway) I even wrote Livingston a note asking him to consider it for one of his columns... should I get an answer to columns in "favorites" I'll be sure to email you directly... again thanks for your help... still looking...
