When people do stupid things are the answers easier too?

I was removing some registered file types and accidentally removed .lnk type files, with
serious consequences. Now all my screen icons with the exception of Internet Explorer
and My Computer have .lnk after their name, but they don’t lead anywhere. I tried to
recover the situation by putting in a new file type called .lnk, but this is not working.

I am using Windows 95. Any suggestions as to how I get restore the situation?

Only one thing more embarrassing that admitting a stupid mistake, and that's solving your own problem.

Got into Tweakui and "Repair Associations" and we are as good as new.

One lesson here, if you have not got Tweakui, get it!

Mark as resolved - thank you.
