I know we went through this once before on this site, but the Sound Blaster sound card puts its mixer icon in the task bar and I can't get rid of it. I searched for "starter.exe" in the registry and deleted the entries there. There is nothing in Startup or in Config.sys or Autoexec.bat. I keep taking it out of the startup group but it comes back. How the hell is this thing starting? I checked the actual program and the only selection it has is to put the volume control on the task bar.

I found a String called "Starter" in the following Registry Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Class/Media/0007/Config

I changed the data value from 01 to 00 and that did it, but there must be a "non-hack" way to do it--its fixed but I'd still like to know if there is some easier way to do it then searching the Registry and guessing at keys!!!
