Got rid of TMP files? How?
Rick's dos command will only delete TMP files in C:\, if done from a C:\ prompt. From the A:\ prompt it should give an unknown command error, or do nothing.

From Explorer, if you browse to \Windows\Temp, how big is the directory?
Right mouse, properties.

It could be that you have excessive files in \Temp. (if you are getting an error searching for TMP files, you have a LOT of them lying around somewhere!)

If so, select them all and then delete.
Also, review all the folders in \temp and ensure that none "look familiar". Ie: You have installed programs here.
If you are unsure of any, leave them. But any that start with a '~' can definitely be deleted.

I've typed this assuming you have trouble on all downloads, although you have only mentioned EXEs!!!
Regardless, the houseclean of TEMP will not hurt. (followed by a recycle bin empty)

OK lets get in the registry.

Go to Start
Run
Type in:
scanreg /backup space between scanreg and /
Then hit enter

Go to start, run, type in

regedit

When the registry opens click on edit and then find.

A window will open and in this window type in

AA???? what ever the name of the AA program was and also the name of the site. What was it AA? Type in the name of the AA thing first, can't see the post now to see what it was.

Anyhow type in AA??? and a few letters, you don't need to type in the whole thing if it is long,

click find.

Now anywhere you see the name of that site or the name of the downloading program delete it.

After it finds it once press F3 and it will find the next entry if there is another one.

Do this with the name of the site, the name of the program, and the http://www. address.

WhitPhil, time for me to get out of here. When you do something like C:del *.tmp it is time to recognize that it has been a long day and I'm not thinking. That is just where I am so it is time to take a nap for one day.

You want to keep an eye on this post.

Not much else to try that I can think of except to let that program finish downloading and the work from there. Hate to suggest it without knowing for sure what it is but I have run out of ideas.

Have a good one everyone.

This old man is going to bed.

I don't know if the following will help or not, but give it a try.
Backup the registry first.

From Mosaic on VDr re: a similar problem.

Go to Start>run and type regedit. Press enter.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins
You will see a yellow folder (subkey) in the left hand pane named Extension.
Right click on it and choose delete. Close the registry.
