Just installed two Win 98 machines on the network. We have numerous NT Workstations on the network already. The problem is when going to Network Neighborhood you can't see the two 98 Machines. The 98 Machines can get to all the files, see everyone but them selves on Net. Neigh. and can get to the Internet no problem. What did I miss in the setup. I'm not to familar with 98 so I know I missed something.

Hmmm... I also have no idea when it comes to Win98, but since this is now also the "Networking" forum, I am having to deal with Win98 issues. Oh well.... at least they doubled my pay (Yeah $0 x 2 = ?)

Um... sounds like the Win98 equivalent of the NT Browser service is not running. Have a look in the Networking Applet in control panel and see if it is an option to install. Also, make sure that the DHCP server is sending the correct address for the WINS server...

Other then that....

See if you can access the Win98 machines from the run command: type in
\\{Win98 machine name}\{share name}
and see if you connect with the Win98 machine.

Also (hmm, I seem to be on a roll), make sure that the Win98 machines are actually logging onto the Domain (when they log in after booting up, there should be three options for UserName, Password and Domain name).

Another thing to look at (I have seen this mentioned, but have no other info on it) is to disable the modem sharing service (if you have Win98SE installed). I have heard this messes with networking.


Or, and this is my personal favourite.... re-format and install NT wks

In 98, you need to install File Sharing in network properties, to get the machines to show up in the 'hood.
