I installed Tweak UI on my Dell Optiplex running WinNT 4 SP 6. Now it is not happy constantly messing up the icons and generally not working properly. Unfortunately Tweak UI will not uninstall. It just gives an error message about not being able to uninstall.

So I have two questions:
1) How do I uninstall Tweak UI and correct the problems associated with having installed it?
2) On my Win 95 & 98 computers I use the ERU utility to back up the registry before I install a program. That way I can restore my registry if something goes wrong. How would I do this for WinNT?

Thanks for the help :-)

Greetings

There are a few things you can do:

1) Delete your ShellIconCache file (it is a hidden file in the root of your Winnt directory) and then get TweakUI to rebuild the icons.

I have seen when TweakUI messes with the icons when IE4 with the desktop upgrade is installed, and you have set TweakUI to hide the shortcut arrow. Even if you set that setting back, it still messes with the icons. Deleteing that file, and getting TweakUI to recreate it (you may have to do this once or twice).

Or, you could download NT TweakUI 1.33. It seems to be working brilliantly on my Win2K machine...

As for backing up the registry... I normally use standard NT backup programs (NOT the backup program that came with NT4, but programs like Backup Exec). I do not really know of small registry saving programs...

Cheers
