Announcements Site and "Public"
Make two announcement groups, One for Site Related and the other for "Public" use. The Site one ONLY MOD's and Admins could post to and would be the only one I would go to.

Good idea, only if we get a notification for each new post in the Mod and Admin Area.

Or a message gets put on the banner, as they often do for official announcements.

The banner is nice the day of what is happening, but a notice a few days ahead of time helps out a lot more.

Could this be a sub-forum of Site Comments? I'm trying to avoid having too many choices on our main screen.

I think this is a very good idea. It's too easy not to notice when something big has happened.
I'd also subscribe to such a forum, but wouldn't dare subscribe to the full Announcements or even Comments and suggestions forum.

It might also be worthwhile reflecting each announcement with a thread in Comments & suggestions for discussion or clarifications since they'd often be one post>closed threads.

So I'm currently thinking that the new "Site Announcements" forum (for Mods and Admin posts only) should not be in Site Comments as no one would see it... maybe at the top of the Community section? What about the current Announcements forum? Some Mods suggested that it be renamed to "Member Announcements"... any other thoughts before I pull the trigger on this one?

I'd agree with that. Actually I'd investigate the option of splitting off Site Comments and the new Official announcements into their own group, but then of course your adding two new fora and one of them would be on the top bar.
Is there any technical reason that you're not allowed too many fora, or are you just thinking of aesthetics and navigation?

Member announcements, Community announcements, Gossip and Congratulations, Personal News...

Member announcements, Community announcements, Gossip and Congratulations, Personal News...
I suggested "Post Your Announcements Here" but that sounds too bloated.

How about taking Ent's suggestions and amalgamating two of them: "Personal News & Announcements". We could also stress that this is where "I am going to be away" announcements are to be posted.

Preferably in one thread though like they are now. I'd hate to see the announcements riddled with individual threads about being away.

I'm going to work on this now, but it may take a bit for the drop-down menus (cached) to show it...

Nope, we could technically have an unlimited number, but I think that users are easily overwhelmed if you present them with 30+ forum choices. Also, there is only so much horizontal space on smaller monitors for the drop-down menus at the top.

I see it here, Mike, after I cleared my cache. I like the yellow highlight!

Thanks! I'm hoping that will increase the likelihood of someone spotting an announcement.
