Elvandil's suggestion:

That "Solved" button should be at the bottom. No one goes back to the top after they finish a thread, or even after reading responses.
And here some people had been so doubtful when it was first suggested.

Needless to say, but thumbs up from me.

Wasn't Phantom was being sceptical?
I was thinking so.... especially because he said: " Some people just can't read right".

That wasn't directed to you.

No. He was only saying maybe even go a step further and put a "solved" button in every post as opposed to just once at the bottom.

So most seem to agree that moving it to the bottom is a good suggestion. I guess we're wondering now whether to leave it at the top, or just have it at the bottom.

I do like seeing the helpers put the link about marking their own threads is an excellent thing.

Oops. Sorry Karen. I cross-posted. Otherwise, your brilliant statement here would be more than sufficient.

After giving it more thought, I think one at the top would be good too. The reason why we put a Reply button at the top was because some read their threads with the most recent reply at the top instead of at the bottom, so the same should apply to the Solved button or those who insist on doing things backwards won't see it.

Well we were on the same topic..... just trying to clarify some points.

I guess I end up being slightly goofy sometimes..

Ummm... every post? Won't that be a little too much?
I do agree that one at top and one and bottom would be good.

The fact is that people just don't bother reading. How many times do I ask 2 or 3 questions in the same post, even seperated by a line, only to receive a single answer!

A single "Mark Solved" button will be constantly missed.

Yeah, I think one on every post would be excessive. We already get people who mark their threads solved at the very beginning by mistake so if there was one on every post that might happen more often and then they don't get help so that's the other end of the spectrum.

The more, the better, I guess, as far as people seeing it. But at least at the bottom, they will see it every time they read the last response. They will even be anticipating pressing it in the hopes that their problem will be solved, too. It should at least greatly increase compliance with the "Solved" protocol, if nothing else.

There's something more wrong than the way we present things when someone presses the "Solved" button at the very beginning. More like brain damage.

I've just finished reprogramming the Solved button location. I'm open to more feedback on fine-tuning it.
