Question Setting Up "Undisclosed Recipients" email group in Outlook Express 6
hello there.

certainly hope someone can assit, though it'll probably turn out that the answer was under my nose all the time.

i'm wanting to set up a group of email subsribers, but which to keep their email details private.

is it possible to set up an 'undisclosed recipients' email group in outlook 6? and if so, how? i've taken a look through the 'help' topics index, but don't seem to be able to find anthing related to my query.

a dumbed down, step by step solution would be greatly appreciated!

with thanks

Hi Jade Eyes,

Put all of the email addresses in the BCC field instead of the To or CC fields when addressing the mail.

Put your own email address in the To field, so everyone who receives the mail will only be able to see your email address.

If you can't see the BCC field when you open the mail, Then click on View, All Headers. Do this in the new email, and not on the Outlook Express main View menu.

To make it easier, in your address book, go to "New Group" and create group and then put all the addresses in there. Then just click on that as a "BCC" as Randy said. You can also set up a separate folder if you wanted to copy those addresses back and forth between separate address books. Personally, I typically set up separate folders for groups and then within the folder, set up a group even if the group is identical to the folder. This keeps it more organized because often the "groups" are addresses that you want to keep separate from other address or categorized separately. Setting up a "Group" doesn't actually segregate the addresses, just allows you to select a group of people with one click. A separate folder actually segregates and categorizes the addresses.

Receive this e-mail from Jade Eyes:

good morning mulder

just wanted to say: BIG thanx for your reply and for exlaining the process so increedibly well! am about to give it a shot and see how we go.

i do have one additional question: creating a new group and folder and so forth makes sense, but i am curious:_ can you add addresses to that new group whenever you like, or would you be required to -recreate the new group each time you needed to add further email addresses?

again, this is probably a silly question, but... well, it would be good to know the answer

hope you're having a good day. take it easy, and thansk again.

No, you don't have to re-create the group. Just click on it and then choose "Select Members" and you can add and delete members whenever you want. Again, I prefer to create folders simply to keep it organized. My address book, like many other, have groups of people that are there because they happen to be co-workers or family members or sports pool particpants, etc. Keeping folders helps you keep track of who people are, especially since as time goes by, you tend to see people's names in your address book and have no idea who they are or how they got there!

The down side to folders is you don't have all your addresses in one place listed alphabetically. That's why I only do it for very specific groups.
