Peachtree Accounting 2005 Problem
Hi all.

I built a computer for a friend and she has loaded Peachtree Accounting 2005 software on it. Everything was working great for about 4 months when she recently starting receiving error messages stating:

"btrieve error: Max Files parameter of 20 is < 100. Please correct and restart"

This error will not let her run the accounting software anymore. I am not familiar with Peachtree or btrieve. Does anyone have any ideas??

Her system's specs:

Windows XP Professional
P3: 1.0 Ghz
512Mb of RAM

Best,
shdunnin

Since Peachtree apparantly has no "free" tech support, we had to hack this one out on our own. If anyone has or has had this problem, the following solution will work as a temporary (or maybe even permanent) fix:

- Run regedit (Start, Run, "regedit")

- Navigate to:
"HKLocal Machine",
"Software",
"Betreive Technologies",
"MicroKernal Workstation Engine",
"Version 6.15",
"Settings"

- In the right pane you will see a myriad of parameters and settings. The three you need to change are: "Max Files", "Max Handles", and "Max Locks."
For each of the three settings, perform the 3 following procedures:

1. Click on the icon to the right of the setting

2. This brings up a dialog "Value Data" and an option to display the value in decimal or hexadecimal.

3. Change the option from Hexadecimal to Decimal and change the value to some high number (e.g. 800)

*Note: It is important that you change the value from hexadecimal to decimal or your computer will not boot!!*

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The steps listed above solved the orignal problem stated in the first post.
