Name Multiple Files in Sequence
I am not sure if this is a question for the business app section, but... here goes:
(I am a PC Vista user.)

I would like to know if there is a way to name multiple files in a sequence? Usually, I encounter a problem entering individual file names when I go to upload pictures from my camera to my computer. For example, I may have a whole string of pictures, let say 35 of them, from one event, like a wedding. So, I want to name the file "Cari's Wedding 1" then each additional picture after would be "Cari's Wedding 2" 3, 4.... and so on. What I have been doing is just highlighting the "Cari's Wedding" part and copying it, then clicking on each individual picture file, waiting for the rename box to open up, hit CTRL V to paste it, and then I add the next number in sequence and move on to do the next file. Then, once I am finished, I go back and add specifics to the file name about a picture if I want to.

This takes a considerable amount of time. I know the specifics that I add on must be done manually, but is there anyway to define a name, like "Cari's Wedding," and then highlight the files and have it automatically apply that name? Then, if that is possible, is there anyway to have it sequence them for me, like the 1, 2, 3... 35, at the end of the determined name?

Any hints at all on dealing with files and file naming in a more simple manner would be greatly appreciated.

Renaming multiple files - Windows will do it for you.
Starting with Windows XP you can download all your photos to your computer with their generic camera names (like ps000001023.jpg). Then browse to the folder the photos are saved in, select them all, right click on the first highlighted generic name and choose rename. Type in the name you want - like Mary's Wedding--. Windows will name them all Mary's Wedding--001, Mary's Wedding--002 etc.

The first file won't have a number, the remaining files will be 001 thru however many files you highlighted.

Thank you! I used the windows renaming function with ease. I can't believe I never thought to even try that. I tried to find out on my own if this was already a Windows function, but I am just not very good at navigating the new help features of Window's Vista. I can't ever seem to type just the right words to gain pertinent information about my quiries; so, thank you.

However, I was looking into some of the renaming software listed at the free download center and I really like the idea of being able to change the case of multiple files, and drag and drop, etc. I was particularly excited about downloading "Quick File Rename + MP3 Rename 3.01", but I couldn't download it. It kept giving me a "page not found" notification. Even when I tried to access this particular software from different websites, none of them downloaded. Is this program not avaliable for Vista? Do I have to be a member of these websites to download something? Am I missing a step here?

Use Microsoft Office Picture Manager
For renaming picture files this program is as easy as they come. No macros or anything and it gets the first file correct. You can name the files anyway you want and start the numbers off at any value.
I think this program comes with office but I don't know. Every computer I've been on in recent years seems to have it.

I was actually looking for one that did mp3's when I saw these posts. I don't like the way windows does it [ (2) instead of (02)] and why it doesn't do the first file????
