Google Docs Account Setup Question
Hi,
I have a gmail account and would like to setup a google docs account for a club.
Does anyone know how the google docs account looks? What I mean by this is,how will the other members of the club see the account? Will they see my present gmail username or can I name it something? There's a google account/docs help area, but it askes me for my account, not my gmail login to use it. Please advise if this could be in a more appropriate forum, I'm starting here.
Thanks for your time,
patmac

first, your gmail and your google apps must use the same username and domain - user.name@yourdomain.com must have been used to sign in to both accounts
also, your google account must exist first. Since you want this for a club, I would set up a new gmail account for the club first.
This might help: http://documents.google.com/support/...py?topic=10773

Bear with me please.
I have a Gmail account already.
I need to know how anyone I give access to the Google Docs will see it. Will they see a Gmail name or a Google Account name? I'm not sure what I will be naming, or where or whne in the setup process.
Thanks...

I have a friend here who has done more with Google accounts than I have - I have asked her to join this thread.

Hi.
Okay to share google documents, the people you want to share with must also have a google account. You must know their email address to envite them to view or collaborate on a document. They will see your name. They do not have access to your email or see any documents you have not shared. You are able to set it up so that they can just view a document or can edit a document. Any edits they make will be seen on your copy (well it is the same copy).
If it is for a club, you may want to consider google apps. This requires that you have a domain. One can be purchased through google affiliation partner, godaddy for $10 per year. This will allow you to set up email accounts for club members, share documents and so on. The plus side, this account is for the club only and you need not share any personal details or personal email accounts.
Alternatively as Slurpee suggested create a new gmail account, which would also enable you not to have to share personal email name.

Oh, they see your name. In my case Cara Wilton and not my gmail address.

Sorry that said, google sends an email to people to "invite" them to share or collaborate on the document, so in effect they also see the gmail address, which is your default user account name.

A cool new addition to google docs is the ability to edit, create documents offline and then synchronize your documents when you go online.

I highly recommend setting up a GHS account with your clubs own domain name. I do it for my family. We mostly use it for the Calendar but having GHS with your own domain makes it alot easier to share documents within your domain.

I think there has only been one other person on the forums that figured that out. I guess nobody really cares what that address is. I grew 2 blocks from the stadium.
