Solved: Excel number formating
Hell-o guys,

It seems that one of the Excel isn't formating as it use to.

I am trying to put parenthesis when the number is in the negative. (ie.: -122)

But, unlike the other Excel that are installed, this one isn't allowing that format.
It's suppose to look like the one in the picture

But instead the examples are all a like, black then red, Black then red.

I need a bit of help here.

Hi there,

Check if it is text. Format the cell to desired, then select the cell, press F2 and Enter. Or try posting a sample to the board.

I am providing a screenshot from her Excel spreadsheet.

As you can see there is no ( ) Parenthesis (Spelling mistake?)

You can compare the two. The first one is my Excel on my PC and thee second one is hers

Select the cells that you want to format

Click on the menu Format, Cells..
Select the Number tab
In the Category box, select Custom.
On the right hand side select the following format

#,##0.00;[Red]-#,##0.00

Up in the type box, you can change the format to suit you.

For example to get the brackets, format the above example to read as follows

#,##0.00;[Red](#,##0.00)

and then click on OK

It works, but It's not good enough. It'll slow the accountant down.

I'll try reinstalling it in the next hour.

Try this, Why is it gone? Why isn't like all the other Excel?

Probably just a version difference. Microsoft has changed features over time with different versions.

And why exactly do you think it would slow somebody down? That's absurd.

It seems that she needs to change often from number to currency and it seems like it got the same problem. So, I am trying to figure out how to do a Macro.

But it seems more time efficient to reinstall Excel.

What about the built-in keyboard shortcuts? Ctrl + Shift + 4 should convert to currency format, whereas Ctrl + Shift + 1 should convert to Number format.

After checking the regional settings, I found out that it was the problem.

I changed it to English (USA) and it worked fine now.
