and no it isn't read-only. None of the boxes are checked in properties.

Did you rename it when you saved it or were you just re-saving it with the same name as the original?

If you click on File and retrieve the document from there is it still the older version as well?

When you try to save, you say you have to save it as a new file? What is it telling you?

I was just re-saving it. you know, ctrl+s.

No, there is no other file in my recent documents. I also check versions, but there isn't anything there, but I don't track changes.

Are you logged in as the same Windows user?

Do you always use Ctrl-S? It's possible that shortcut no longer works.

Try creating a new document - Save it - then make some changes and click on "File" and "Save" and see if it holds the changes.

Or use the little save icon.

it doesn't tell me anything. Just asks for the name I want to save it as.

Also, on a side note. I have been saving it in various ways and now it is working correctly. As in it is saving the changes when I just do a regular save over a pre-existing document. I don't know what I did. But saving works now. But I am still missing my changes.

I have used the save icon too. and regular save. I don't have any other account on this laptop. When I turn it on, it starts the computer up. I have removed the whole login bit. So it just starts up when it turns on.

Well, unfortunately, I think the changes weren't saved, so they are lost.

That's what it's looking like. If the changes were never saved there is no way to recover them.

As a last ditch effort, please do this:

Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Disconnect from the Internet.
  • Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of OTScanIt.
  • Open the OTScanIt folder and double-click on OTScanIt.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
  • Under Drivers select the radio button for All
  • Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 30 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 30 Days
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • Reg - App Paths
    • Reg - IE Zones & Template Policies Details
    • Reg - Software Policy Settings
    • File - Additional Folder Scans
    • Evnt - EventViewer Errors/Warnings (last 7 days)
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it automatically.
  • Save that Notepad file. Click the Format menu and make sure that Word wrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Use the Reply button and upload Notepad file here as an attachment please.

I was wondering, is it possible that the file was saved to a different location on my computer? Maybe under a different name? I have a few files that look like it could be it, but when I open them, I get strange characters out of the file. And I get prompted to use Chinese to decode it.

I attached the file
Attached Files
File Type: zip OTScanIt.zip (45.0 KB, 5 views)
