Question Solved: Office 2003 Outlook email problems
I am all out of ideas... please help....
Running XP with Outlook 2003. virgin ISP, Avira premium security.
All going fine.. then.. I can now no longer send emails.. I can receive them. They keep bouncing back not even leaving the computer...saying

554 5.7.1 <qqmarina@gibnet.gi>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied,

I have checked all the settings and nothing has changed.

I can get online, I have scanned for mal ware, viruses, defragged, backed up, checked fire wall...

Any ideas would be greatly received.

Kind regards
mangotoo

Does your ISP's smtp server require authentication when sending?? I'm thinking this is the issue based on the Access Denied error message.

Check your settings under the "More Settings" Button under your email account setup area.

Try going to tools menu in outlook.

  • Then E-mail Accounts
  • Then click next on view and change existing e-mail accounts
  • Click change on highlighted account
  • Click more settings button in lower right corner
  • Then click advanced tab.
By default your outgoing server (SMTP) is set to use port 25.

Try changing the port number to 10025.

Hopefully, that will help.

Hi Just done that and No it doesnt work either. In fact when it goes through finding the server it does, it sends the test email it says that the server was found but there was no response from server. ( i know it to be working as I can access it from webmail) Its now saying check email address. which i know to be correct but have retyped it again. ( I have 4 accounts off this server and all email accounts give same results. I know it must be obvious but I must be missing something. thanks Jo x

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
'polomorley@aol.com' on 09/07/2008 18:25
554 5.7.1 <polomorley@aol.com>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied

This is the response I get now when replying to emails. Which has changed slighly from before.
Port settings are back to default as 10025 didnt work.

I am having exactly the same problem, but my problem started with the last Microsoft update. Did you also just update. If so then there seems to be a problem with the update other than the zone alarm problem.

outlook again HELP PLEASE
Well I thought I had sorted it out. In fact I ended up having to uninstall the programme then re install and it seems to work.... then fine for 3 months until i did a stupid thing... I sent an email with a very large attachment. It jammed up. so i tried to delete the email. It says it cant as it has started sending... so i deleted all my email accounts. then even unistalled the programme. But after re installation, its still sitting there in my out box, stopping all mail. i have had to go back to using outlook express. which is a pain as all my adresses are in out look. any ideas on any help would be great. thanks jo

Hi Mangotoo

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Place Outlook 2003 in Work Offline mode:
File > Work Offline
Then close Outlook, allow the process to terminate ( a few seconds) then restart Outlook.

Can you delete the message in the Outbox now?

That does occur if there are not any valid e-mail accounts in Outlook.

OK. I have re input my email account details in and asked it to work offline. Left it for 30 seconds and then opened up the program again. Email still in outbox. I then try and delete it and it wont. I have even completely un installed the office 2003 and re installed it, but when i did... there it is in the out box like a bad smell!!

Let's attack it from a different angle.

Place Outlook 2003 in Work Offline mode.

In Outlook 2003,
File > New > Outlook Data File > OK
Name the new .pst file: Test.pst
Click: OK
In the Create Microsoft Personal Folders window that appears.
Key in: Test in the Name field.
Click: OK
A new folder named Test will appear in Outlook 2003
__________________________________________________________________________

Now we want to make the new Test folder, the new Default delivery location.
Tools > E-Mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts > Next

At the bottom of the E-Mail Accounts window, click the drop down arrow for: Deliver new e-mail to the following location:
Select: Test
Click: Finish

Close Outlook 2003, wait a few seconds for the Outlook.exe process to terminate, then restart Outlook 2003.

The new Test folder will now be the Default delivery location and have an Inbox and Outbox. If Outlook 2003 receives any messages they will be delivered to the new Test Inbox.

Access the Outbox in the original Personal Folders and attempt to delete the message.

Let us know if that works or not.

So the Test folder is now the default delivery location?

Can you open the e-mail in the Outbox?
If so, see if you can remove the attachment and save the message without the attachment, then attempt to delete the message or see if you can drag/move it to the Drafts folder.

If not, then you will probably need to copy/move all the other folders from the original Personal Folders to the new Test folder.
Leaving behind the Outbox.
