Unhappy WinFLP & OE/Outlook2003
I am running WinFLP (Windows Fundamentals For Legacy PCs) This is a different version of Windows XP which is also by Microsoft (just to clear that up in advance).

So far every program i could have wanted on there has worked but there is an issue with Email, I have always used Outlook Express to send/receive and it is not included in this version of windows.

I tried Outlook 2003 and this has an issue with sending and receiving emails, i do not have access to the errors at the minute as it is a computer at work.

If anyone has any information regarding how to get these 2 programs to function on WinFLP or possibly any programs similar which WILL WORK on WinFLP that would be great.

Thanks.

I am confused, besides Outlook 2003, what is the second program you need help with?
You stated Outlook Express was not included.

Before your post I had never heard of WinFLP.
Did WinFLP come with Internet Explorer 6.0?

Can you describe the Send/Receive problem, for Outlook 2003?

Sorry, I was wondering if there was any way to obtain Outlook Express and install it onto that operating system.

WinFLP did come with Internet Explorer 6 which i have updated to the latest version.

I wont be able to describe the problem with Outlook 2003 accurately until I get back to work.

Basically, If i have NOT created a message to be sent, when I click Send/Receive, it appeared that Send was successful but Receive always has an issue.

But, when I tried to Send a message by creating one and then pressing Send it wouldnt send.. yet Send/Receive states that Sending was successful (when no messages are being sent)

I'm not sure if i have explained it clearly enough lol

I will have more details soon.

Yes, the error messages for Outlook 2003 will be helpful.

When you say, you updated Internet Explorer to the latest version. Is that Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 6.0 service pack 1?

I was hoping for IE 6.0sp1 since it had Outlook Express. Internet Explorer 7 does not.

Check in: Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components
It is possible that the shortcut for Outlook Express was removed from the Start Menu.
If you see Outlook Express listed, place a check mark in the box for Outlook Express.

Keep us updated.

If you get Outlook 2003 working, do you still want Outlook Express?
Have you searched for: msimn.exe or .wab ?

If you can uninstall Internet Explorer 7 and then install Internet Explorer 6.0, it has Outlook Express.

For your error messages in Outlook 2003:
Have you logged in to the Mail server to verify it is indeed available?

A few ideas to try:
  • Delete and manually recreate your e-mail accounts.
  • Verify the incoming and outgoing server settings are correct and if required; authentication is enabled.
Send a Test message addressed to yourself.

If that fails, create a new Profile for Outlook 2003,
Cancel out of upgrading or importing messages from the original profile.
Recreate your e-mail account and send yourself a Test message.
Adding/Recreating a Mail Profile

Let us know if that makes a difference or not.

OK, not sure, what "it" is referring to?
Can you tell me exactly what you tried?

By the way, upgrading Internet Explorer 6.0, back to Internet Explorer 7 would still be an option.

the file msimn does not exist.
I havent tried downgrading IE.
The mail server is available, i accessed the address through webmail.
Deleting and manually recreating the email accounts produced the same problem, i triple checked that i entered everything correctly and tried different settings such as authentication enabled and disabled.
Sending a test message gave me the same error message about sending failed as in the images i uploaded.
I did everything the website said which you linked me to and after all that it just had the exact same issue.

So no luck so far

Ok, so just to clarify, you created a brand new Profile for Outlook 2003, with a new .pst file and a manually created e-mail account and the same Send/Receive errors occurred?
Bummer.

Have you tried a Detect and Repair in Outlook 2003?
Have you downloaded the latest updates for Outlook 2003?

Have you tried creating a new Windows User account and trying Outlook 2003, in the new User account?

Is your firewall blocking Outlook's access to the Internet?
Is your anti-virus configured to scan e-mails?

1st question: yes

2nd question: how do i do that?

3rd question: Office service pack 3 refuses to install but apart from that everything else has updated

4th question: I dont think i'll go that far, i'll probably just use another program if this doesnt work.

Detect and Repair, in Outlook 2003:
Help > Detect and Repair
You may need the Office disk.

Creating a new Windows User account shouldn't be a problem.
Outlook 2003 should show as installed for any new user accounts.

If you are free to download items onto that computer, you might want to go ahead and try Thunderbird and see if it has any Send/Receive problems.
Thunderbird
