This happens every time you open a new message window, or from time to time?

Interesting...

Are they buttons?...Are they clickable?

Do you see any tool tips if you mouse over them?

jimr381 the picture looks fine if you click the yellow bar, to resize it.
Is that not working for you?

When this pops up again - with the ribbon and the buttons visible, press and release the Alt key and see if that makes them vanish.

Yes, Alt does make them disappear. So, it seems they're just keyboard shortcuts that now appear on the ribbon.

Thanks for the quick responses and I apologize for not replying quicker but I'm on vacation and promised the wife I'd stay away for a few days.

Glad to help -was an interesting thing to investigate. (Oh, and it is good for you to stay away now and then - but keep coming back!)

I know this is solved, thought I would add this for future reference.

Ran across this:
http://office.microsoft.com/training...C101562731033#

Click: Play, to see the "Badges" that show the key tips.
If you search on: "keytips" in Office Help, it will show Use the keyboard to work with Ribbon programs
If you search on: "key tips" it will show the top 100 results.

Click Alt to see the keytips, click Alt, again, to toggle off the keytips.
Clicking in the body of the message also toggled the keytips off for me.
