No longer able to send mail in Outlook 2007
I have had Office 2007 for about 6 months now. Since installing it I have not had any problems with Outlook. I have been using Outlook for a number of generations now. Suddenly this week it stopped sending emails. When I tested the connection I get the following error:

Task 'USA.net - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I have a number of different accounts using different SMTP settings and none of them work. I contacted my ISP (Comcast and was told that they had made no changes)

I could use a little help here, as my emails are backing up!

Hi Schlep

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

What anti-virus program are you using? Did you install it recently?
Is e-mail scanning enabled?

I use Norton 360 and have had it installed for about 6 months. The firewall is active on Norton. I turned off the firewall and it still didn't work. I have also unchecked "My server requires authentication" and that did not work either.

If e-mail scanning is enabled in your anti-virus program, disable it.

Try creating a new Profile in Outlook 2007:
How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003

Start Outlook 2007 with the new profile, if the option appears to upgrade, select Do not upgrade.
Send a message addressed to yourself to Test.

Let us know if that makes a difference or not.

It seems like the problem is stemming form my router. I have a Linksys WRT54GS. I logged in using my neighbors router and Outlook sent the emails. Now I am trying to figure out the problem with the router. ANy suggestions before I reset the router?

No, if it is that simple, try resetting the router.

I could not reset my old router so I purchased a new one, figuring this would solve my problem. I purchased a Linksys WRT610N. After connecting everything I attempted to send an email and no luck.

With your new router, does everything else work properly? (HTTP, SSH, Telnet, etc)

Some routers have firewalls built-in, does your new one?
Can you receive email?

Can you clarify how you were able to login to your neighbors router?
Did you do this wirelessly?

Were you able to check the settings that briealeida asked about?

Did you try creating a new profile in Outlook 2007?

Did your original router not have a reset button on the back?
You would need to hold that button in using a pen or paper clip for about 10 seconds.

It appears that everything else is working fine with the new router. Except that I cannot set up my wireless print server, but thats another issue.

I have not tried to create a new profile. The original router did have a reset button but it did not work. I attempted to reset it a number of time but to no avail. That's why I purchased the new one.

The router is fine, but you are still receiving the error in Outlook 2007?
Have you logged into your mail servers?

Logged into the mail servers? I have accessed and been able to send mail going through my neighbors connection. I just can't send mail through mine.
