Solved: Problems wi Outlook, SP3
Suddenly, Outlook 2003 will not load (Installer tries to install it, but runs into permission problems). Will not load from Office disk either (cannot write value of wxpStartMenuSheetASLs to registry key\software\MSOffice\11.0\outlook\setup).

In Current User Permissions, Admin is selected, but greyed out, for outlook.

I recently (before problem) installed and ran RegCure Registry cleaner.

SP3 will not install. Everything else works fine, including Work, Excel, etc.

Any help will be appreciated.

Uninstall
I should add that I cannot uninstall Outlook '03 (or Office '03).

Hi BKH1

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Please do not create duplicate threads.
I have deleted the duplicate thread and moved this thread to the Business Applications forum.

What happens when you attempt to uninstall Office?
Please post any errors you are receiving.

The registry key you posted is incomplete, can you post the entire key?
This item: wxpStartMenuSheetASLs must be unique to your machine, as Google shows no hits, except for your thread.

Error msgs
Thanks for the response.
I get an Error 1402-Setup cannot open the registry key
HKEY.Local.Machine\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\common\General
Verify that you have permissions

Both Admin & Owner show full permission in this slot.

I also get 'fatal error during installation' when intaller backs out.

If you run a Find in the registry for this: wxpStartMenuSheetASLs, is anything found?

There is an installer cleanup utility, you can use to remove Office 2003:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

I would also recommend setting a System Restore point before running the installer.

Installer Cleanup
I ran the installer cleanup. Didn't help, didn't hurt. I still get the Error 1402 when I try to uninstall Office '03, and then the 'fatal error'.

Awesome!

So, did SP3 install without first uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2003, or have you gotten that far?

SP3 failure
No, Office '03 is now fine, but SP3 installs all the way, then gives an 'access denied' flag and uninstalls. Interestingly, it no longer shows updates in the taskbar. Any clue?

Just to clarify, this is Service Pack 3 for Office not Service Pack 3 for Windows XP?

Do you have the exact error message?

No, this is SP3 for Windows. The message is 'Access denied'.

Glad I asked, I was thinking this was for Office.

That's a pretty vague error message..Access denied...to what?

How are you attempting to install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP?
Through the Windows Update site or did you download the file to the hard drive?
