Solved: Outlook 2007 - cannot receive Yahoo UK mail
I have installed new MS office 2007 and have changed my email address.

Thinking I was clever, I went to MS Outlook, opened the Account settings and just changed my user name and password since I am still using Yahoo UK for mail (I specify UK because it is different from the USA).

This should have worked...no? NO! I can only send email by clicking 'Send All', but not send mail by using send/receive. And as I said, I cannot receive at all.

There is no window that pops up showing progress and therefore, no error messages.

While in the Account settings, I tried the 'Test Account Settings' and it worked for sending and receiving.

I also have another Yahoo account which I have on Outlook, and have not changed any settings for it, but it too works as above now.

Help dear Guru's!!!! I am fed up sitting at this thing all day since my new software installation trying to fix things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi megabyte

In Outlook 2007:
Tools > Send/Receive > Send/Receive Settings > Show Progress
Will bring up the Outlook Send/Receive Progress window. If you click the push pin in the lower right corner, the progress window will remain open until you close it.

In Outlook 2007:
Tools > Send/Receive > Send/Receive Settings > Define Send/Receive Groups
You can Edit what accounts are in the default Send/Receive group here.
You can also create new Send/Receive groups that collect messages at different time intervals.

Deleting and recreating the Yahoo e-mail account from scratch should also automatically add the new account to the default Send/Receive group.

Let us know if that works for you or not.

Thank you EAFiedler.

I did not know any of what you suggested. The 'show progress' only worked when I used 'send all' rather than 'send/recv'. I also did your next step, but could not get send/recv to work.

I worked on this and another minor problem for 10 hours yesterday and was just about to give up, but I decided to look one more time at what you suggested in 'define send/recv groups'. I never noticed the: 'include the selected account in this group' !!!!!!!! Dumn, dumn, dumn! It now works!!!!

I still cannot send/recv on my new account, but that is an error issue, so I will start a new thread.

Thanks again!

PS I will mark this solved in about a week just in case anyone has questions

Since it is related, go ahead and post it here.

You might try my suggestion in your other post first.

Post the exact error you are receiving please.

Once you had the final installation of Outlook 2007 completed, did you setup the failing Yahoo account first, and test it?

I do not know about Yahoo UK but here in the USA yahoo can be used in OE or Outlook only with the paid version... The free one cannot be used except as web mail

Vicks, the free version in the UK works with Outlook. I have been using it for years with multiple addresses.

EAFielding, after the 2007 installation, I went to Control Panel/Mail and set up a new profile. I entered the new faulty email there and did a test which did not work, so I removed it. I then opened Outlook with my new profile and tried there and the test failed again.

I have yet another new yahoo uk email address which I just opened, but decided not to go with, so I tested that the same as above, and that too failed.

I also tried closing my anti-virus to see if that worked; it doesn't.

With this new installation, I tested the 3 accounts by trying to receive email created on the web and also by trying to send from Outlook. This is what happens:

- NEW ACCOUNT: "Receiving reported error (0x800CCC92): Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under tools click E-mail accounts. The server responded -ERR (AUTH) Error logging in. Please visit http//:mail.yahoo.com" Sending says exactly the same but ends at 'click E-mail accounts.

- 2 YEAR OLD ACCOUNT: Shows that send/receive works with both the test and with clicking send/receive. Although it is not working, there is still an email in my outbox which is not being sent.

-OLD ACCOUNT: works

I sent an email to Yahoo UK and just got a reply and I have a long list of things to do. It starts with Start/Run/cmd/telnet pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk 110 I will try this in a couple of hours and let you know what happens.

Okay, I did the telnet thing recommended by Yahoo uk.

Results are:

POP: after password I got "-ERR [AUTH] error logging in. please visit http//mail.yahoo.com

SMPT: port 25 I got "could not open connection to the host on port 25. connection failed.

port 587 I got "220smtp 147.mail.uk1.yahoo.com ESMTP

I have tried both ports 25 and 587 and I get on both: Enter Network Password, user name and password are correct, and when I click OK it comes right back.

The progress on send/receive is still showing error 0x800ccc92 for both.

I have sent this to Yahoo UK, but as you know, a response can take days, so I thought I would go to the genius :-)

Genius?
Thank you for the compliment, I wish.

Sorry for the delay.

As Vicks stated earlier, we in the US cannot use Microsoft Office Outlook or any other e-mail application that supports POP with Yahoo unless we purchase the upgrade.

I am finding in the Yahoo UK & Ireland pages that you can POP Yahoo UK at the maximum of one Yahoo UK account, more than one Yahoo UK account requires the purchase of Yahoo! Mail Plus for each Yahoo account.
What if I want to POP multiple Yahoo! Mail accounts?

I don't know why you were able to use two Yahoo UK accounts before the third one was added. Perhaps you were grandfathered in and the third Yahoo account raised a flag?
I can only guess.

I'm having problems sending mail in my POP3 email client. What can I do?

This is what I am finding for your error:
Why is my password rejected when trying to check mail via an email client?

Did your response from Yahoo even mention the account limitation? Did you mention that you had three Yahoo accounts when you contacted them?

I spent ages doing various searches and never came up with the info that you found!

I did mentioin to Yahoo twice that I have 3 yahoo accounts which I wanted to use in Outlook and they did not blink. I still have not received an answer to my second email to them though.

I am getting to the point of ending my relationship with Yahoo and trying out gmail. Although, gmail in the UK is googlemail (the name gmail was already taken here), which I am not happy about. So, I was thinking of asking my american friend to open an account for me so I can have a gmail account.

I hope that I am not opening up another can of worms though using a gmail account in england with outlook!!!!!!!

I will keep you informed as to what is going on.

In the interim, thanks for you help!

gmail or googlemail it is the same thing, the first is just a shorter name.

I would suggest removing the new third Yahoo account from Outlook, your oldest account works, perhaps, the second account will start to work again? Though, I wouldn't hold my breath.

After looking over the Gmail Terms of Use, I don't see where you being in the UK would prevent you from having a gmail account. It doesn't say, no, and it doesn't say, yes.

Ask your friend to send you an invitation for a gmail account, instead of setting one up for you.

I know it's sad, but I really want the shorter version......gmail

I am going to hold out for a couple of days, just out of curiousity to see if Yahoo sends me a logical answer to the problem, although I will still change to gmail. The one thing I do like about yahoo is it has a very good 'My Yahoo- UK' where I can check various things that are imortant to me all on one page. I had a look at iGoogle and it is very basic, so I will keep one yahoo account just for my yahoo.

I'll do as you say EAFielding and will report as soon as I can.

Thanks again!

a solution
Sorry this took so long.

I now have 2 free Yahoo UK email addresses and my new Gmail from GoogleMail UK in Outlook.

I had my BT broadband set up for me so I did not know that the person who set it up also created a BT Yahoo email address. I am not sure if this is the reason why I had so many problems and why now I am allowed more than one free Yahoo UK account, but if anyone is reading this and has the same problems, you now have to verify any accounts with BT Yahoo in order to use Outlook or any other email client and also you have to set up your account differently. See: http://btyahoo.com/smtpnonbt

Also, I tried all of the different combinations of ports that were suggested and the ones that worked for me: POP3 =110 and SMTP =587

I am completely fed up with Yahoo now! I see no reason why anyone should spend more than 15 minutes TOPS setting up Outlook to use any email address!!!

Now onto Gmail: I did get my friend to set up an account in the States and send me an invitation. Problem is it still showed up as Googlemail. (For those who do not know, the name Gmail was taken in the UK and Germany, so google had to use the name googlemail instead). Again I spent a lot of time searching for a solution, trying different proxies, etc. I travel a lot and will soon be moving to the States and I did not want a Googlemail email address just to have to change it again soon. So I did a test for a new account making up a name. When it came to me typing my new address, I typed in 'gmail.com' rather than 'googlemail.com'. (Shhhhhhhhh....it worked!) The only time I see the name googlemail is when I have to sign in, but that will change when I am in a different country. FYI: my port settings are: POP3= 995 and SMTP= 587 Also, put a check in 'This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).

Sorry if this is so long winded! I would be happy to help anyone who might have the same problems.

Thanks again EAFielder!!!! Could not have done any of this without you!
