Getting Quickbooks off external hard drive
My computer crashed and I had somebody transfer my data onto an external hard drive. I loaded Quickbooks 2004 onto a new computer, but from the beginning, to use the program, the external drive had to be on and running. So obviously there is some kind of system file or registry file that is on the external drive that is not on the new hard drive. After operating this way for a few months, the external drive is not working properly and I really need to get those files off of there asap. I tried copying all the files from the external to the hard, and that has not worked. I tried copying only Intiut files and that did not work either (it seems to hang up on the backed up data files that are around 25,000 mbs? each.) Anyway, the few Intuit files I have managed to copy to the desktop are not what QB needs to work on the hard drive. If anyone can tell me what exact files i need to bring over and how to do it, that will be very much appreciated!!

Disconnect the drive and reinstall.

The only thing the program may need from the external is the folder with the data files if that is the location you specified for the data folders to be located. If you want them to be in a new location, look through the options of the program and set up the new data folder. Then copy the contents from the old one.
